DogeOS Launches Public Testnet for EVM-Compatible DOGE Apps
DogeOS has launched a public testnet for its EVM-compatible environment, allowing developers to build with DOGE. The network is a new application layer for Dogecoin, not a change to the blockchain itself. The testnet is a starting point, and DogeOS needs users, applications, and measurable activity before the ecosystem story moves beyond announcement.
The testnet has working access, with a public RPC endpoint and instructions for deploying a contract through Foundry. Users can claim test DOGE every 24 hours, but no working deployments or user activity for the named apps were confirmed for the testnet.
DogeOS listed applications covering finance, trading, and games, but no applications are deployed or funded yet. The design of DogeOS relies on validators, a trusted execution environment, and a permissioned sequencer, which means users would depend on the selected validators and hardware to maintain correct records.
A Dogecoin Core proposal called OP_CHECKZKP would allow computers running Dogecoin to check zero-knowledge proofs, but it has no activation date. DogeOS founder and CEO Jordan Jefferson said the team would share a mainnet timeline as it reached development milestones, but no date has been set.
Financial applications associated with Dogechain now hold less than $300, while those on Shibium hold about $140,000. Shibium's figure is down from a peak near $6.4 million, according to DeFiLlama data.
