DogeOS Public Testnet Launches, Bringing Smart Contracts to Dogecoin
Dogecoin is expanding its capabilities beyond meme-driven trading and payments. On September 30, 2026, DogeOS launched a public testnet that allows developers to build decentralized applications on the network.
The new application layer uses a zero-knowledge rollup to support EVM-compatible smart contracts. DOGE will be used as the native token for transaction fees, enabling various use cases such as trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, and blockchain games.
DogeOS currently combines trusted execution environments, validators, and a permissioned sequencer. However, Dogecoin does not verify DogeOS zero-knowledge proofs directly, which creates security and trust-model trade-offs that could affect adoption and integration with decentralized exchanges (DEX) and centralized exchanges (CEX).
