DogeOS Testnet Brings Complex Contracts to Dogecoin
Dogecoin is expanding its capabilities beyond simple payments with the launch of DogeOS, an application layer built by the team behind MyDoge wallet. The public testnet, called Chikyū, allows developers to deploy Ethereum-style smart contracts without altering the base chain.
The network is designed as a zero-knowledge rollup that's EVM-compatible and uses transaction fees paid in DOGE rather than a new gas token. This means teams already familiar with Solidity can reuse their existing workflow.
Early adopters are working on various applications, including trading, lending, stablecoins, options, prediction markets, launchpads, and games. These projects include Barkswap for liquidity, Superposition Finance for lending, Derps for perpetual markets, and USDoge as a collateralized stablecoin.
DogeOS is not rewriting Dogecoin's consensus rules; it's adding a programmable layer on top of the chain. CEO Jordan Jefferson has emphasized that the immediate focus is giving builders a live environment while the network is validated, with a mainnet timeline to follow later milestones.
