DogeOS Testnet Launches, Bringing EVM Smart Contracts to Dogecoin
DogeOS has launched its public testnet, marking an important step in bringing EVM-compatible smart contracts to Dogecoin. The project uses a zero-knowledge rollup designed to support various applications, including trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, and games. This is made possible by DOGE serving as the native token for transaction fees.
The testnet launch gives developers time to build and test applications on this new infrastructure. According to Jordan Jefferson, CEO of DogeOS, 'We're focused on the public testnet, giving developers time to build and test applications while we validate the network.' The mainnet timeline will be shared as development milestones are reached.
DogeOS was funded with a $6.9 million round led by Polychain Capital in May 2025. Two months later, a proposed Dogecoin Core upgrade aimed at adding native ZK-proof verification to Dogecoin was submitted. This upgrade has not yet been implemented.
