DogeOS Unveils Public Testnet for Ethereum-Style Apps on Dogecoin
DogeOS, the application layer for Dogecoin, has launched its public testnet, allowing developers to build Ethereum-style apps on the Dogecoin network. The testnet, launched on September 30, is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), making it easy for developers who already build for EVM blockchains to deploy on Dogecoin.
The project aims to expand Dogecoin beyond payments and price speculation, and the $6.9 million raised in May is being used to support the development of the ecosystem. The Dogecoin Foundation's director, Timothy Stebbing, notes that DogeOS preserves the network's simplicity by introducing utility one layer above the ledger.
Several teams are already building on the testnet, including Barkswap, Superposition Finance, and USDoge, among others. The founders are optimistic about the launch, stating that it marks the beginning of Dogecoin's evolution from an asset to an ecosystem.
The testnet will provide a live environment for developers to build and test products before the mainnet launch, which has not been scheduled yet. DogeOS is expected to add more developer tools, integrations, and ecosystem projects as the testnet matures.
