DogeOS Unveils Public Testnet for Ethereum-Style Apps on Dogecoin
DogeOS, an application layer for Dogecoin, launched its public testnet on September 30. The testnet gives developers a Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible environment to build apps that settle on the Dogecoin network.
The launch follows a $6.9 million funding round in May this year. The project is betting that Dogecoin's millions of holders and worldwide recognition will attract developers looking to build applications such as trading, lending, stablecoins, gaming, and consumer apps.
DogeOS positions itself as a layer above the Dogecoin ledger, rather than altering it. This design preserves the network's simplicity, according to Timothy Stebbing, Director of the Dogecoin Foundation.
The testnet is already attracting developers, with several teams building applications such as liquidity engines, lending protocols, perpetual exchanges, and prediction market aggregators.
