DogeOS Unveils Public Testnet for EVM Smart Contracts on Dogecoin
DogeOS, an application layer for Dogecoin, has launched its public testnet. The launch on September 30 allows developers to build and test applications using EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) smart contracts before a future mainnet release.
The network is structured as a zero-knowledge rollup that settles its state back to the Dogecoin blockchain, leaving the base layer unchanged. DogeOS currently secures the network using a trusted execution environment and validators, with a permissioned sequencer also in place.
Dogecoin's native token, DOGE, serves as the transaction fee for transactions on the network. A future upgrade to Dogecoin Core is planned to allow miners to verify execution proofs directly, removing the current reliance on a trusted execution setup. This upgrade has not yet been implemented, but was submitted as a formal proposal in July 2025.
