DogeOS Unveils Public Testnet, Paving Way for Programmable Applications
DogeOS has launched its public testnet, allowing developers to build applications on top of Dogecoin (DOGE) without needing to rebuild the entire network. This new route to smart contracts is a key part of DogeOS's thesis, which aims to create a programmable application economy around DOGE.
The public testnet is EVM-compatible, meaning developers can use existing Ethereum tooling and code to build on top of it. The testnet currently uses a permissioned sequencer, validators, and a trusted execution environment (TEE) for security, but it still relies on DogeOS's proposed verification mechanism, which has not been implemented.
The proposal, OP_CHECKZKP, would allow Dogecoin to verify zero-knowledge proofs directly, but it remains unimplemented. This means that until Dogecoin can perform this verification, DogeOS carries trust assumptions outside of Dogecoin's Layer 1.
