Dolly Parton Becomes Latest Target for Memecoin Traders
Crypto traders once again turned to memecoins after news broke that Dolly Parton had died. In response, users launched tokens named after her on platforms like Pump.fun and Robinhood Chain.
The tokens, known for their emphasis on hype and online trends rather than underlying value, quickly gained attention. However, insiders sold off their holdings near the peak, sending prices tumbling in a 'rug pull'.
Some of the coins used variations of Parton's name, including 'Dolly', 'DollyParton', and 'RIP Dolly Parton'. The token named 'Dolly' reached a market capitalization of nearly $480,000 within hours before plummeting below $180,000.
The recent launches follow a familiar pattern in which memecoin creators seize on the deaths of high-profile figures. This trend resurfaced a narrative that became one of crypto's defining stories in 2025, when speculative capital poured into these internet-driven tokens.
