Dormant 14-Year-Old Bitcoin Wallet Suddenly Moves, Sending Value Soaring
A long-dormant Bitcoin wallet that had been inactive for over 14 years has suddenly moved, sparking interest in the cryptocurrency community. The wallet received its initial 100 BTC in November 2011, just a few months after Satoshi Nakamoto's public activity ceased.
The transfer was confirmed in block 967732, and the value of the holdings has increased by an astonishing 2,486,052 percent since their receipt. This implies that the wallet's owner likely received these coins as part of early mining rewards before the first halving on November 28, 2012.
Galaxy Research classified the address as 'Noah Doe #3113,' a label linked to a lawsuit currently underway in New York. The plaintiff, Noah Doe, and two anonymous Wyoming limited liability companies are seeking confirmation of ownership for over 3.7 million BTC tied to 39,069 addresses.
The recent transfer has raised questions about the owner's intentions, as it intersects with ongoing legal disputes over long-unused Bitcoin. On-chain data suggest that a significant portion of early mined coins remains off the market, with approximately 1,096,000 BTC still unspent and estimated to have been mined by Satoshi Nakamoto.
