Dormant Bitcoin Wallet Awakens, Transfers $8.09 Million
A Bitcoin wallet that had been dormant for nearly 15 years has become active again, transferring 100 BTC worth approximately $8.09 million. The coins were received at an estimated average cost of around $3 per BTC in 2011 and remained untouched until they were moved on September 19, 2026.
According to Galaxy Research, the transfer occurred when Bitcoin was trading around $85,940. At this value, the position represented a gain of approximately 2,486,052%. The calculation illustrates how dramatically Bitcoin's market value has changed since 2011, when the asset was still far from today's institutional market.
The transaction does not establish whether the owner sold the 100 BTC or simply moved them to another address. A transfer may reflect custody changes, wallet management, security practices, inheritance arrangements or an eventual sale. Without additional evidence, the blockchain record alone cannot distinguish among those possibilities.
