Dormant Bitcoin Wallets Stir as Prices Surge
As Bitcoin prices surge to new highs, long-dormant wallets are suddenly waking up and moving significant amounts of cryptocurrency. According to data from btcparser.com, 28 dormant wallets moved a total of 1,314.41 BTC worth $94 million over the last 24 hours. The majority of this movement came from wallets first created in 2014, with 92.4% of the moved Bitcoin coming from these addresses.
These wallets shifted their coins to new addresses, mostly consolidating them into newer P2WPKH (Pay-to-Witness-Public-Key-Hash) addresses. This consolidation took place at a staggering pace, with several transfers landing in the same blocks, suggesting coordinated movements rather than random transactions.
The destination addresses show no obvious signs of heading toward an exchange, but this could change as more data becomes available. The sudden movement of these long-dormant wallets is significant, especially considering the massive gains they have accumulated over the years.
