Dormant Wallets Stir Up $100 Million in Bitcoin Activity Amid Price Recovery
A cluster of Bitcoin addresses that had been inactive for over a decade came back to life in September, moving more than $100 million.
The largest transfer involved a wallet that was silent since May 2011. On September 29, it moved 20.43 BTC in two separate transactions, worth around $1.7 million at prevailing prices.
The transactions had estimated acquisition bases of approximately $4 and $3 per coin respectively, resulting in combined gains of around $1.724 million against historical values.
This was just one of several notable cases, including 12 wallets from March 2010 that transferred a combined 600 BTC on September 5, worth near $48 million at the time.
