Dormant Wallets Stirring Again as Ancient $3 Million BTC Stash Wakes Up

A trend of long-dormant Bitcoin wallets coming back to life continues, with four more ancient stashes stirring in recent days. According to Galaxy Research's blockchain monitoring, these awakened wallets moved a combined 202.84 $BTC, worth roughly $15.73 million, between Aug. 29 and Sept. 4.

The largest of the batch held 146.06 $BTC, or about $11.31 million, and had sat untouched since November 2013. This wallet delivered a gain of about 12,902% on a cost basis near $595, making it one of the most significant gains in Bitcoin's history.

One wallet stood out for its astronomical paper gains: a 40 $BTC stash up over 2.5 million percent since November 2011. This means that by sitting on it for close to 15 years, this patient hodler managed to turn roughly $120 into more than $3 million.

The trend of long-dormant wallets stirring in recent months has raised questions about the potential impact on Bitcoin's price and circulation. However, most such movements leave the coins' fate ambiguous, as a transfer alone doesn't reveal whether an owner is selling or simply relocating funds.
