Dow Bounces Back with 0.9% Gain Amid Calmer Bond Market
After a tumultuous week driven by bond market fluctuations, Friday brought some much-needed calm to the stock market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI +0.98%) led the charge with a 0.9% gain, while the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC +0.43%) and S&P 500 (^GSPC +0.43%) trailed behind at 0.7% and 0.68%, respectively.
The relative quietude in bond yields allowed stocks sensitive to interest rates some breathing room. The 10-year Treasury yield remained elevated, hovering near 4.7%, but its narrow range helped ease concerns. As a result, assets that compete with bonds saw gains, including Bitcoin (BTC +5.30%), which jumped 5.9%. Crypto-related stocks also performed well, with Robinhood (HOOD +13.70%) and Coinbase (COIN +8.20%) leading the charge.
The rally was not limited to cryptocurrencies, as gold rose 2% in tandem with physical and digital gains. This trend is becoming increasingly common, with few real-world examples existing prior to now. Tesla (TSLA +5.14%), meanwhile, posted a notable gain of roughly 4%, driven by forward-looking catalysts such as Nevada's approval of up to 5,000 robotaxis in the Las Vegas area and an upcoming European launch of the Tesla Semi.
