Dragonfly Calls for End to Zcash Dev Fund After 2028
Dragonfly's managing partner Haseeb Qureshi has proposed ending the Zcash development fund after it expires in 2028. The fund, which currently holds around $95 million worth of ZEC tokens, is large enough to cover remaining work on the cryptocurrency, according to Qureshi. However, he argues that the fund risks being 'politicized' as its value approaches $100 million.
Qureshi's proposal comes amidst a broader industry debate over the role and control of the Zcash development fund. Some argue that it is essential for maintaining the security and growth of Zcash, while others believe it should be dismantled to avoid governance disputes.
Paradigm founder Matt Huang agrees with Qureshi on the need for partial governance, but suggests a hybrid model combining additional forms of governance. Maxime Desalle, an investment analyst at Winklevoss Capital, goes further, proposing that the Zcash community 'completely get rid' of the development fund.
