Drift Freezes $9.2M in Stolen Assets Following April Security Incident
Drift Foundation has made significant progress in recovering stolen assets from its April security incident. The foundation was able to freeze approximately $9.2 million in stolen funds, but three wallets holding 107,165 Ether (ETH) remain inactive.
The incident involved a total of about $295 million in user assets. The stolen funds were later bridged to Ethereum and split across four wallets. One wallet moved roughly 23,094 ETH to Tornado Cash on July 23, while the other three have not recorded transfers.
Drift plans to direct recovered assets into the DFX recovery pool. The foundation is also evaluating its DRIFT token's future within the broader ecosystem.
The foundation has partnered with Bybit on a public bounty program offering 10% of successfully recovered funds. Drift previously hired Mandiant, zeroShadow, and SEAL 911 to investigate the incident and trace the stolen assets.
