DTC Unveils Blockchain Tokenization Service for Major Stocks and US Treasuries
The Depository Trust Company (DTC) is building a tokenization service that converts traditional securities into blockchain-native assets. The service, dubbed DTCC Tokenization Service, will create digital twins for shares of major stocks and US Treasuries, allowing them to be held on blockchain networks.
The project has been in development since 2025, with over 50 firms contributing to its creation. DTC received a No-Action Letter from the SEC in December 2025, clearing the way for the service's launch.
On July 15, 2026, the first live trades using DTC-tokenized assets were executed across two blockchain networks: Hyperledger Besu and the Canton network. The full DTCC Tokenization Service is set to launch in October 2026, with plans to add Stellar integration by 2027.
The tokenized assets will maintain CUSIP-based entitlements, ensuring that they carry the same legal protections and entitlements as their traditional counterparts. Built-in smart contract controls include mint, burn, pause, and clawback functionalities.
