Dubai Adopts XRP Ledger as Official Settlement Layer for Real Estate Market
Dubai has officially adopted the XRP Ledger as its settlement layer for a sovereign real estate market. This move marks a significant step forward in the adoption of blockchain technology in the industry, and sets an ambitious target to tokenize AED 60 billion worth of property by 2033. To put this figure into perspective, it represents around 7% of all property transactions in Dubai.
The experiment began with ten properties worth AED 18.5 million, which were successfully tokenized on the XRP Ledger. One villa was sold out to investors from 40 countries within just five minutes, with every settlement cleared using Ripple Custody for security. Phase II of the project is now live, allowing 7.8 million property tokens to trade on secondary markets.
The Dubai Land Department has publicly stated its goal of treating XRPL as production infrastructure for title deeds and fractional ownership. This move sets a new standard for the industry, as governments begin to recognize the potential benefits of blockchain technology in real-world applications.
