Dubai Embraces Cryptocurrency as Mainstream Payment Option
The UAE is witnessing a quiet shift towards embracing cryptocurrency as a mainstream payment method. As part of Dubai's Cashless Strategy, which aims to have 90% of all transactions across the government and private sectors go digital by the end of 2026, crypto payments are becoming increasingly accepted.
Dubai's flagship carrier Emirates has rolled out Crypto.com Pay, allowing customers in the UAE to book flights using the digital payment platform through the airline's website or app. The integration follows a memorandum of understanding signed between Emirates and Crypto.com in July 2025.
The Department of Finance is also set to let residents pay government service fees using crypto, following an MoU with Crypto.com. Payments will be converted to AED before reaching government accounts.
Crypto payments are also being accepted for property purchases by several major developers, including Damac, Emaar, Nakheel, and Ellington Properties.
