Dutch Police Crack EURC Token Scam Targeting Rolex Sellers

Dutch authorities have made two arrests in connection with a cryptocurrency scam that targeted Rolex sellers on Marktplaats, the country's largest online marketplace. The suspects allegedly used counterfeit EURC tokens to obtain several high-end watches from unsuspecting sellers.

The investigation began after multiple Rolex sellers reported similar encounters in August 2025. A seller from Almelo listed a Rolex and later met a prospective buyer who paid with EURC. However, when the seller tried to convert the received tokens into euros, he learned that they were worthless.

Police searched the home of one suspect and found firearms and drugs. The 45-year-old man from Leiden has been released from custody but remains under investigation for alleged cryptocurrency fraud.
