DYORSWAP Heist: $2M in Ethereum Stolen from Scam Bridge Contract
Crypto scammers have pulled off a massive heist on DYORSWAP, a multi-chain decentralized exchange. Over one thousand users sent a total of 767 ETH ($2,691.62 · Live) to a fake bridge contract that was designed to look like the upcoming GIWA blockchain's mainnet.
The scammers were able to trick DYORSWAP into integrating the spoofed version of GIWA over the weekend, allowing them to drain the funds from the fake bridge contract just 12 hours later. The losses total $2 million.
DYORSWAP has since admitted that it was a victim of the scam, along with its users. The exchange claims to have distributed over 200 ETH in compensation to those affected.
The scammers used 'social engineering at the highest level' to carry out the heist, as one onlooker described it. They created a fake OP Stack chain with the same chain ID as the legitimate GIWA network, making it appear legitimate during DYORSWAP's initial verification.
