EBA Pushes for Crypto Lending Regulation Under MiCA Framework
The European Banking Authority (EBA) has urged the EU to regulate crypto lending and borrowing under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. The regulator suggests analyzing potential legislative changes, including assessing client suitability, imposing leverage limits, and additional disclosure requirements.
The EBA also considered establishing a certification system for DeFi protocols, citing a 2025 study by the EBA and ESMA that found crypto lending and borrowing services available in at least 16 EU countries.
