ECB Invests in Tokenized Securities Through New Pontes Platform
The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched Pontes, a platform that connects blockchain-based markets to central bank money. As part of this effort, the ECB plans to invest in tokenized securities, including tokenized bonds.
The initial focus will be on euro-denominated securities from governments, agencies, and European institutions. The purchases will settle through Pontes, which links distributed-ledger market platforms with TARGET Services.
Thirteen market participants, including major banks such as Deutsche Bank and Santander, have already joined the platform. The ECB expects full implementation by 2028 as it develops its broader tokenized finance framework.
