ECB Ties Blockchain to Euro Payment System with Pontes Project
The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched the Pontes project, which links blockchain markets with the euro area's existing payment systems. This move is part of the ECB's efforts to develop a digital euro for consumers by the end of the decade.
The Pontes project will eventually be replaced by a longer-term solution called Appia, for which a blueprint should be ready in 2028. The introduction of this new system is a significant step towards integrating blockchain technology with traditional payment systems.
