Eccles Predicts AI Will Dominate Live Dealer Market by 2028
Nigel Eccles, co-founder of FanDuel, is shutting down BetHog, his crypto casino venture, while it's still operational and growing. The reason isn't failure but refocusing on a more promising opportunity - AI live dealer technology.
Eccles believes that live casino incumbents will lag behind on innovation, citing the example of De Beers' response to lab-grown diamonds as an analogy for how Evolution Gaming might resist adopting AI-based avatars. He predicts that 80% of live dealer games will be AI-based in five years.
The idea for Sentient Studios' photorealistic AI dealer was born out of a side project last summer, which showed unexpectedly high engagement from lower-stakes players who felt more comfortable interacting with the virtual croupier. The team migrated to Sentient Studios as development accelerated, and the product improved rapidly.
