EEZ achieves first atomic L1-to-L2 Ethereum transaction
The Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) has successfully executed an atomic transaction between the Ethereum mainnet and a layer-2 network, marking a significant step toward unifying the Ethereum ecosystem.
Eduardo Antuña Díez, a contributor to the EEZ project, shared the transaction details, describing it as the “first atomic cross-chain” L1-to-L2 transaction. The transaction involved transferring 0.001 Ether (ETH) and updating the state of a rollup, all within a single atomic process. Atomic transactions ensure that all linked actions across networks either succeed together or are reversed if any part fails.
In March, EEZ developers explained that their framework is designed to enable rollups to interact with each other and the Ethereum mainnet within a single transaction, eliminating the need for bridges. The project aims to reunite liquidity and applications currently spread across separate L2 networks.
Gnosis co-founder Friederike Ernst previously highlighted the issue of fragmented liquidity, noting that the lack of synchronous composability forces protocols to maintain separate deployments across L2s. Jakub Gregus, co-founder of decentralized finance protocol Hydration, praised the demonstration, calling it “one of the most important milestones” in crypto, with potential direct benefits for Ethereum.
