EEZ achieves first atomic L1-to-L2 transaction for Ethereum
The Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) has successfully tested an atomic transaction between Ethereum mainnet and a layer-2 network. On Tuesday, EEZ contributor Eduardo Antuña Díez shared the transaction, calling it the first atomic cross-chain L1-to-L2 transaction. The transaction log shows a cross-chain call transferring 0.001 Ether (ETH) and updating a rollup's state.
Atomic transactions ensure that all linked actions across networks either succeed together or are entirely reversed if any part fails. In March, EEZ developers announced that the framework is designed to enable rollups to interact with each other and Ethereum mainnet within a single transaction, eliminating the need for bridges. The project aims to reunite liquidity and applications scattered across different L2 networks.
Gnosis co-founder Friederike Ernst previously highlighted the issue of fragmented liquidity, stating that the lack of synchronous composability forces protocols to maintain separate deployments across L2s. Jakub Gregus, co-founder of decentralized finance protocol Hydration, described the demonstration as one of the most important milestones in crypto, suggesting the technology could directly benefit Ethereum.
