EEZ Demonstrates First Atomic Cross-Chain Transaction on Ethereum
The Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully testing an atomic transaction between the Ethereum mainnet and a layer-2 network. Eduardo Antuña Díez, a contributor to the project, shared the transaction on Tuesday, describing it as the "first atomic cross-chain" L1-to-L2 transaction. The transaction involved transferring 0.001 Ether (ETH) and updating the state of a rollup, demonstrating the seamless interaction between different blockchain layers.
An atomic transaction ensures that all linked actions across networks either succeed together or are entirely reversed if any part fails. This feature is crucial for maintaining the integrity and reliability of cross-chain operations. The EEZ framework was designed in March to enable rollups to interact with each other and the Ethereum mainnet within a single transaction, eliminating the need for bridges. The project aims to reunite liquidity and applications that are currently fragmented across separate L2 networks.
Gnosis co-founder Friederike Ernst previously highlighted the issue of asynchronous composability, which forces protocols to maintain separate deployments across L2s, fragmenting liquidity into multiple markets. Jakub Gregus, co-founder of the decentralized finance protocol Hydration, called the demonstration "one of the most important milestones" in crypto, emphasizing its potential benefits for Ethereum.
