EigenLayer Proposes Irreversible Exit Route for Restakers
EigenLayer's proposal ELIP-018 aims to create a final and irreversible exit route for restakers, addressing a complex issue in restaking systems. The RETIRE framework, short for Retirement Enabling Terminal, Irreversible Restaking Exit, is designed to simplify the exit process by providing clear terminal exits.
The current system has multiple layers of obligations between stakers, operators, and services, making it difficult for users to exit safely. If restaked assets are tied to additional services, exiting can be a complex process that may accidentally trigger penalties or slashing mechanics.
EigenLayer's community is debating the proposal, which is still in its draft stage. The discussion revolves around whether RETIRE is necessary and how it interacts with existing withdrawal and slashing rules. If implemented, the framework would treat exits as permanent moves rather than temporary state changes.
