EIP-8363 Withdrawn from Hegotá Upgrade Amid Community Debate
The Ethereum community has been debating a proposal to burn a share of validators' staking rewards, known as EIP-8363. The proposal, which was part of the upcoming Hegotá upgrade, would have burned a share of each validator's rewards at every epoch, with the share growing as more ETH is staked. The burn would have reached 100% once about 60.25 million ETH is staked, roughly half the supply.
The authors of the proposal, including Jérôme de Tychey, president of Ethereum France, announced that they would withdraw it from consideration for Hegotá. This decision comes after Lido's representative asked the authors to pull the proposal in August, citing the timing of the Hegotá upgrade and the potential for issuance changes in later forks.
The authors plan to pursue a separate issuance process, with a published schedule running from November to EthCC in April. This decision was made after the proposal drew significant attention and debate, with over 200 comments on the Ethereum-Magicians forum.
