El Reno Officials Concede Enforcement Failures at Bitcoin Mining Facility

El Reno city officials have acknowledged that they failed to enforce regulations at a Bitcoin mining facility in their jurisdiction. The facility, operated by Athlon Blockchain Technology LLC., had been issued a stop work order in 2023 due to code violations and missing permits. However, the city did not follow up with the property owners, allowing them to continue operating.

The facility was responsible for losing over three million gallons of water due to a leak, but the water levels have since returned to normal. According to El Reno Mayor Steve Jensen, the property owners will be held accountable for the costs associated with the ordeal, including overtime and labor expenses.

Jensen stated that the city would use 'whatever means necessary' to collect payment from Athlon Blockchain Technology LLC. The facility has been condemned, and no one is allowed on site after 5 pm.
