El Salvador Emerges as Global Crypto Hub Thanks to Favorable Tax Regime
El Salvador has become an attractive hub for crypto ventures due to its progressive legal framework and zero percent tax on digital asset transactions.
The country's Digital Assets Issuance Law establishes a regulatory environment overseen by the National Commission of Digital Assets (CNAD), which separates Bitcoin-exclusive services from broader digital asset operations.
Companies handling alternative tokens, non-fungible tokens, or complex trading mechanisms must apply for a Digital Asset Service Provider (DASP) registration, which grants approval across several operational categories, including exchanges and trading platforms, custody and wallet management services, token issuance and underwriting activities, transfer and payment processing solutions.
The regulatory authority provides full exemptions from income, municipal, and capital gains taxes on digital asset operations for holders of a DASP registration, giving them a competitive advantage in the global market.
