El Salvador Leads in Bitcoin Adoption, But Knowledge Remains Limited
Cornell University researchers have released a report on Bitcoin adoption across 25 countries. According to their findings, El Salvador has the highest share of respondents who have owned Bitcoin at some point, followed by Venezuela and Nigeria.
The study found that economic instability and limited access to dollars were common factors in countries with high ownership rates. In Venezuela, for example, a respondent described Bitcoin as 'faster, cleaner, and less risky' than other methods of obtaining US dollars.
In contrast, Japan had the lowest rate of Bitcoin ownership among the surveyed countries, with 88% of respondents saying they had never owned it.
