El Salvador Unveils Sivar App for Secure Digital Dollar Transfers
El Salvador has launched Sivar, a state-supported app for sending digital dollars to verified recipients in El Salvador. Modveon built the platform, while Coinbase provides its payment infrastructure.
The app allows eligible US users to send funds with a $2 transfer fee and settles payments on Coinbase's Base network. More than 25,000 Salvadorans signed up before launch, according to Coinbase.
Salvadoran families received nearly $10 billion from abroad in 2025, central bank figures show. Sivar uses stablecoins for transfers, five years after El Salvador adopted Bitcoin as legal tender.
