The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has clarified the source of El Salvador's Bitcoin holdings after completing its first review of the country's financing program in June 2025.

The IMF found that the additional Bitcoin, worth $100 million, was obtained through private donations and not purchased with public funds.

This clarifies the source of an increase in El Salvador's reported Bitcoin holdings that had raised questions about the country's compliance with its commitments under the $1.4 billion IMF program.
