El Salvador's Bitcoin Holdings Generate $219 Million in Unrealized Gains
El Salvador's government continues to accumulate Bitcoin as part of its strategy to stabilize its finances. As of 2026, the country holds 7,606 Bitcoins in its official reserves, generating unrealized gains worth over $219 million.
The average acquisition price was $45,200, while the current price is $74,000, resulting in significant paper profits for the government.
These profits are used to secure better loan deals and pay off old national debt cheaply. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) maintains that the increases in the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Fund reflect the consolidation of existing Bitcoin across government wallets rather than net new market purchases.
