El Salvador's Bitcoin Reserves Grow to $602M Amid Volcano-Powered Mining
El Salvador's Bitcoin treasury continues to grow in value as the country holds 7,762.37 BTC worth $602.84 million in its official reserves. The government maintains a daily accumulation strategy of purchasing one BTC every day, which has built a massive digital vault intended for future financial leverage during negotiations with international lenders. This approach treats the asset as a shield rather than cash, allowing the administration to accumulate significant unrealized profit.
The treasury currently holds $167.82 million in unrealized profit from buying coins at an average price of $45,200 while the current value sits near $74,000 per coin. A single transaction in November 2025 worth $100.42 million also bolstered these reserves. The country's total Bitcoin holdings sit near 7,606 coins according to recent treasury trackers.
The IMF deal and new rules have changed El Salvador's financial standing after the 2024 agreement terms. The $1.2 billion volcano bond refinancing provided capital necessary for managing national obligations without relying on standard markets. The $1.4 billion IMF deal made Bitcoin acceptance voluntary, abandoning the rule that forced businesses to accept it.
Bitcoin City, powered by geothermal heat from the Conchagua volcano, has produced 474 Bitcoins since operations began. The city offers zero income tax for companies moving their computing hubs there, drawing tech talent to San Salvador. The administration also offers zero income tax for artificial intelligence companies shifting their computing hubs to the region.
