ELIZAOS Token Officially Declared Dead Amidst Lawsuit Fallout
Eliza Labs founder Shaw Walters has announced that the ELIZAOS token is 'dead' due to a class-action settlement that exhausted the project's treasury. This marks the end of one of the largest AI-agent cryptocurrency stories in recent years. The settlement, reached on August 4, 2026, left no funds for future token support or foundation operations.
The lawsuit filed by Burwick Law alleged misleading marketing and deceptive business practices tied to the AI16Z project and its later migration to ELIZAOS. Walters stated that the claim was 'ridiculous,' but the company didn't have the capital to fight it, leading them to settle instead. As a result, the token will no longer be supported by the foundation.
The ElizaOS software, however, will continue as open-source artificial intelligence (AI) software without an associated token. Walters emphasized that the underlying OS will remain available for development and improvement, but there will be no buybacks or supply reductions to support the token. He also criticized the speculative culture surrounding crypto tokens, arguing that it distracted from building useful technology.
