Elliptic Unveils Nine Engineering Criteria for On-Chain Compliance
Elliptic, the global leader in on-chain risk management, has released a paper titled Built for Compliance, outlining nine critical engineering decisions that determine whether an on-chain risk system can support fast, accurate, and defensible compliance decisions at scale. The paper comes as regulators worldwide tighten rules and major banks announce plans for a joint stablecoin.
As financial institutions and crypto businesses face increasing regulatory scrutiny, Elliptic highlights the gap between machine speed and system design. Many on-chain risk systems were not built to handle the pace of automated transactions, leading to stale results, missed exposures, or system failures during outages. The paper aims to equip compliance teams with the nine engineering criteria they should require from providers to ensure robust compliance systems.
The nine criteria include real-time computation, 99.99% uptime, the ability to absorb volume spikes, full blockchain coverage, cross-chain analysis, sanctions screening beyond published lists, configurable risk rules, continuous monitoring, and full disaster recovery. Elliptic claims to meet all these standards, ensuring that its platform can handle the demands of agentic on-chain finance.
Jackson Hull, CTO at Elliptic, emphasized the importance of these criteria, stating that compliance teams often discover the limitations of a provider only when issues arise, such as volume spikes or regulatory inquiries. The paper builds on the Elliptic Standard, published in September 2026, which sets out principles for governing agentic on-chain risk.
