Elon Musk regains trillionaire status with $65 billion one-day gain
Elon Musk has reclaimed his title as a trillionaire after a significant rebound in his estimated wealth. On October 5, 2026, his net worth surged by $65.4 billion, or 6.7%, to reach $1.04 trillion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. This marks his largest single-day gain since August 7 of the same year. The increase was driven by gains in SpaceX and Tesla shares, which make up over 98% of his fortune.
The rally followed a favorable assessment from investment bank Morgan Stanley and better-than-expected vehicle sales for Tesla. SpaceX's stock rose 13% from the start of October, while Tesla's shares increased by 6.7%. The aerospace company has recovered 58% from its August low through October 5.
Musk's fortune had previously plummeted by more than $600 billion from its peak by late July. His first trillionaire status was achieved on June 12, 2026, following SpaceX's debut on the Nasdaq, which raised $75 billion in its initial public offering. The stock's subsequent decline pushed it below its original sale price, creating a different market environment for later investors.
SpaceX's June 3 securities filing revealed the company holds 18,712 BTC, with a cost basis of $661 million and a fair value of $1.293 billion as of March 31. Musk also personally holds bitcoin, ether, and dogecoin. Tesla, meanwhile, has 11,509 BTC in its reserves, after initially purchasing $1.5 billion worth of bitcoin in 2021 and selling about 75% of its position in 2022.
