Emirates Flies into Crypto Payments with Crypto.com Partnership
The Middle East's largest airline, Emirates, has rolled out a new payment option for its customers. The company has partnered with Crypto.com to allow users to book flights using digital payments settled in Emirati Dirham (AED). This move is seen as a significant step towards normalizing cryptocurrency use in the region.
The integration is now live on emirates.com and the Emirates App, allowing eligible UAE residents with a Crypto.com account to select Crypto.com Pay at the checkout stage. Transactions are processed securely and comply with UAE regulatory standards. The payment flows differ slightly depending on the device, with mobile users redirected to the Crypto.com app and desktop users completing payment by scanning a QR code.
This partnership is built on a solid regulatory base, with Crypto.com's Dubai entity holding the distinction of being the first Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) to receive a Stored Value Facilities (SVF) licence from the Central Bank of the UAE. The UAE has constructed one of the world's most detailed and layered crypto regulatory frameworks, making it an attractive location for companies like Emirates and Crypto.com.
