ESMA Calls for Tougher Investor Protections in Europe's Crypto Space
European regulators are pushing for tougher investor protections in the crypto space.
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) wants to enhance cost disclosure, strengthen rules on marketing, particularly by influencers, and require disclosure of staking, lending, and borrowing arrangements.
This is part of ESMA's submission to the European Commission's public consultation on possible changes to its crypto regulation regime, known as the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
MiCA was established in July this year and has provided a 'solid framework for investor protection', according to ESMA. However, the regulators say there are still gaps in the rules.
