ESMA Cracks Down on Regulatory Noncompliance in EU's 2027 Agenda
European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has announced its priorities for 2027. The agency will focus on enforcing regulatory compliance, standardizing oversight, and targeting market abuse across the European Union.
According to ESMA's latest report, the regulator aims to enhance supervisory convergence across the EU while continuing to cooperate with National Competent Authorities (NCAs) in supervising crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) under MiCA. The agency has decided to prioritize regulatory compliance from 2027.
Crypto users need to be aware of ESMA's move to tighten oversight on market abuse, including the roll-out of the MIDAS centralized crypto-market surveillance system designed to track suspicious trading activity and detect manipulation under the MiCA framework.
