ETH Market Turmoil Wipes $3B in Open Interest Amid $308M Liquidations
According to TradingView's mid-August ETHUSD futures data, there has been significant deleveraging in the market. This process reduced open interest by approximately $3 billion and triggered around $308 million in forced liquidations.
The margin calls on leveraged positions led to a hit on ETHUSD spot CFD longs. The situation was particularly challenging for investors with high leverage, as they were forced to sell their assets to meet the margin requirements.
On a more positive note, there has been an influx of capital into Ethereum-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Inflows reached $220 million in mid-August, with $173 million of that coming from the iShares Ethereum Trust. This surge in demand suggests growing interest in Ethereum as a store of value and investment vehicle.
