ETH Reward Burning Plan Ditched Amid Controversy Over Monetary Policy
Ethereum's plan to burn a portion of validator rewards has been withdrawn from the Hegota update. Jérôme de Tychey, co-author of the proposal and President of Ethereum France, stated that it would be inappropriate to decide on monetary policy changes within the network update process.
The EIP-8363 proposal aimed to burn an increasing portion of validator rewards as the staked ETH rate increases. Proponents argued this could centralize the validator structure and weaken ETH's monetary role.
Industry participants and Ethereum core developers raised concerns about the potential impact on security, economic incentives, and solo validators. The burning curve calculation, liquid staking protocols, and validator set structure were among the main points of contention.
