Ethena and Optimism Unlock Millions in Tokens Amid Market Volatility
Ethena Labs, the project behind the algorithmic stablecoin USDe, has unlocked a significant amount of ENA tokens in a recent weekly release. According to the company's website, 170 million tokens were unlocked, valued at approximately $40.58 million. This release is part of Ethena's token unlock schedule, which allows investors to access a portion of their tokens on a regular basis.
USDe, the stablecoin, relies on collateral such as Bitcoin (BTC) and stETH, as well as their inherent yields. It also establishes short positions in Bitcoin and ETH to hedge Delta and leverage perpetual/futures funding rates to maintain peg and generate yield. This approach helps USDe capture ETH staking rewards and short funding rates while achieving balance.
Meanwhile, Optimism, a Layer 2 scaling solution, also unlocked tokens this week. Optimism's governance page reported that 4.45 million tokens were unlocked, valued at approximately $590,000. Optimism enables high-volume transaction processing on the Ethereum network while maintaining its security.
