Ethena and Optimism Unlock Significant Tokens in Algorithmic Stablecoin Moves
Ethena Labs, a project focused on algorithmic stablecoins, has unlocked a significant amount of tokens. The company's USDe stablecoin currently relies on collateral consisting of Bitcoin (BTC) and stETH, as well as their inherent yields. This collateral is used to establish short positions in Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH) to hedge Delta and leverage perpetual/futures funding rates to maintain the peg and generate yield. The company achieves balance by using spot yield to offset losses from a one-time short position, capturing ETH staking rewards and short funding rates in the process.
The specific release curve for Ethena's tokens is as follows: 170 million tokens were unlocked, valued at approximately $40.58 million. This is a significant amount, and it's likely to have an impact on the market.
Another development is that Optimism, a Layer 2 scaling solution, has also unlocked tokens. Optimism achieves Ethereum network scalability by adopting Optimistic Rollups, enabling high-volume transaction processing while maintaining Ethereum's security. The company's specific release curve is as follows: 4.45 million tokens were unlocked, valued at approximately $590,000.
