ether.fi Diversifies Away from EigenLayer Amid Market Volatility
On August 13, ether.fi launched its non-custodial crypto neobank, dubbed the 'Summer' release. The new product includes tokenized stock and metals trading, an integrated Aave market on Optimism for portfolio-backed borrowing, fiat ramps in over thirty currencies, and programmatic ETHFI buybacks.
The launch is a major milestone for ether.fi, which aims to bridge decentralized finance (DeFi) with everyday financial needs. However, beneath the surface, the company has been quietly distancing itself from EigenLayer, its restaking protocol that made it famous. According to ether.fi's own documentation, less than 1% of its assets remain staked with EigenLayer as of August 2026, down from about half in early 2026.
The decline of Ether.fi's core business is also noteworthy. Its staking arm holds roughly $3.3 billion, a significant drop from the peak of $12.43 billion in August 2025, representing a decline of approximately 73% in a year.
