Ethereum and Base Fork Over Account Abstraction Standard
A recent development in the Ethereum ecosystem has led to a fork between two of its most prominent networks, Ethereum and Base. The split occurred after talks broke down between the two sides regarding a shared account-abstraction standard.
Account abstraction is a feature that allows users to pay network fees without holding ETH and sign transactions with a phone passkey or rotate keys without add-on infrastructure.
Ethereum is moving forward with EIP-8141, also known as Frame Transactions, while Base is pursuing EIP-8130, a Keystore-based design. The two networks had been working on merging their approaches but ultimately decided to go their separate ways.
